Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko has confirmed he wants to leave St James’ Park in the summer transfer window.
Sissoko joined the Magpies from Toulouse in 2013 and has been a regular fixture in the first team ever since, making 117 Premier League appearances and scoring 11 goals.
The France international, who is currently preparing for Euro 2016 after being included in Didier Deschamps’ final 23-man squad, was criticised for some of his performances as the north-east outfit were relegated to the Championship.
Newcastle’s first-team players have largely been quiet on their plans beyond the summer but Sissoko has revealed his desire to leave St James’ Park for a new challenge.
“I have reached a level where playing in the Championship would be difficult for me,” he said exclusively to Foot Mercato. “I need to continue to evolve. I aspire to play for the greatest European clubs and to continue with the French national team.
“I hope that there will not be a problem for me to go and enjoy myself at another club.”
