Championship outfit Reading have signed midfielder John Swift from Chelsea on a three-year deal.
Swift, 21, who spent last season on loan at Sky Bet Championship rivals Brentford, had come to the end of his contract at Stamford Bridge.
“John is a very talented player,” Reading boss Jaap Stam told Reading’s official website. “I’ve seen him play and I think he could be very important in the way we want to play.
“He can play as a winger on either side, or as an attacking midfielder.
“His physique is good, he is good on the ball, he has the pace to get past players, and he has the capability of putting his team-mates in front of goal with chances to score. He is going to be a big asset for the club.”
England Under-21 international Swift made one senior appearance for Chelsea after progressing through their academy, against Cardiff in May 2014, and scored seven goals in 28 games during his time at Brentford. He has also had loan spells at Rotherham and Swindon.
