Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva looks set to miss the start of the season after picking up a hamstring injury last Wednesday.
The Brazil international, who had been linked with a move to Galatasaray, limped off during the Reds’ 2-0 pre-season win at Huddersfield.
And he has now been ruled out for a month after the hamstring was assessed, which has put him out of contention for the rest of the club’s programme of friendly matches.
Leiva will sit out the clashes with Chelsea, AC Milan, AS Roma, Barcelona and Mainz and also looks likely to miss the Reds’ Premier League opener against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday August 14.
He could be touch and go for the trip to Burnley six days later, given that it comes almost exactly a month to the day he picked up the injury.
The injury could kill off Galatasaray’s interest in the 29-year-old with the Turkish giants rumoured to be offering him a four-year deal.
