The former England boss has been out of work since being sacked by Newcastle back in March but is hoping to return to the Premier League with the Tigers.

McClaren is a former Tigers player, having spent six seasons with the club from 1979 to 1985, and now hopes to be given the chance to manage the club.

McClaren is now reported to have applied for the post but faces strong competition from Roberto Martinez, Ryan Giggs and Gary Rowett as the club look to make a quick appointment.
