Barnsley centre-back Alfie Mawson is expected to complete his £5million switch to Swansea once he has passed his medical on Tuesday.
The Swans confirmed over the weekend that they had agreed a fee with Barnsley for the 22-year-old’s services and a deal should be rubberstamped well before Wednesday’s 11pm deadline.
Mawson is close to agreeing personal terms and as long as there are no issues with the medical, the former Brentford man will complete his switch to the Liberty Stadium.
Mawson will help fill the void left by Ashley Williams’ departure to Everton, and the Swans have done well to fight off competition from Sunderland.
It now remains to be seen whether boss Francesco Guidolin will move for another central defender before the deadline or whether that will be it and he will switch to other areas of his squad.
