Chelsea boss Antonio Conte believes Nemanja Matic can be one of the best players in the world and will not be sold this summer.
The Serbian midfielder struggled to impress last season, but the same can be said about a host of players, and Conte is reading nothing into those performances.
There have been reports that Italian champions Juventus are lining up a bid, while former Blues boss Jose Mourinho would like to take him to Manchester United.
However, speaking ahead of Chelsea’s game against Liverpool in the International Champions Cup, Conte says the player is going nowhere despite the arrival of N’Golo Kante from Leicester City.
“He is not for sale and I know with work he can become a fantastic midfielder, one of the best in the world,” Conte said in a news conference.
“He is a very important player for me, he is very important in my idea of football. He knows this and I’m delighted by his attitude and behaviour and I see in him commitment.”
