Manchester United ace Juan Mata is relishing the challenge of pre-season as his side prepares to face Borussia Dortmund in China.
The Red Devils kicked off their preparations for the new campaign with a 2-0 success over Championship outfit Wigan on Saturday, and they will now head to the Far East to take on Dortmund and near neighbours Manchester City in the International Champions Cup.
Spain international Mata believes the prestigious matches are the ideal preparation for the new campaign, as United aim to improve on the fifth-place finish they achieved in the Premier League last season.
He told the club’s official website: “They are two great clubs and when you play in this kind of competition you are focused on getting fit and getting ready for the season.”
The 28-year-old has been particularly impressed by the credentials of Dortmund over recent years, with the two clubs set to go head-to-head at the Shanghai Stadium on Friday.
He continued: “Dortmund have been playing great football over the last few years. They have been in a Champions League final and fighting with Bayern [Munich] for the Bundesliga.
“They have a great squad. I really like the way they play, I like to watch them on TV and it’ll be very tough because they are a very offensive team and a quality team.”
