Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles has publicly backed under-fire boss Roberto Martinez and says he should stay on as manager.
Reports claim the Everton board will meet later this week to discuss the future of the Catalan, who is under increasing pressure after what has been in the main a very disappointing season.
Robles, who is now the club’s number one keeper ahead of departing US shot stopper Tim Howard, has backed his manager and urged the board to stick by him.
“His job as manager is not easy but, for me, yes, Roberto Martinez is important,” he told the Echo. “He’s intelligent and, for this club, he is perfect.
“He is a top manager. It’s normal that when you lose (people say) that the manager and players are bad, but I don’t think so.
“We are a young team and we can be a top team. The staff are top and the most important thing now is to focus on the next game and take it step by step.”
