Manuel Pellegrini: Why I don’t understand Liverpool fans

He said: “The complete squad are confident they can win the title, especially as they have the experience.

“Players with that experience, who have lived those moments, know this. The whole squad is concentrating on closing that gap. If we can do it sooner, that is better, but while we have chances, we’ll continue.”

City have missed the wing wizardry of Kevin De Bruyne, who has been out since damaging knee ligaments against Everton in late January.

But Pellegrini hopes De Bruyne and midfielder Samir Nasri – who has not played since October due to hamstring and thigh problems – will be back for the title run-in.

He said: “The medical staff think that Kevin De Bruyne and Samir Nasri will both be ready after the next international break. We have them for the whole of April and part of May, I hope.”
