Manuel Pellegrini left fuming as Man City suffer double injury blow in Man Utd defeat

“I am not happy with the performance but I don’t think we deserved to lose. We dominated the game. United were not better than us. We had 26 chances so it is important we continue with the same spirit. We are still fourth and we still have 24 points to play for.”

Asked why City’s form is so poor compared ot other seasons, he said: “Every season is different. We are here to talk about today’s game. I can’t explain. You have the right to ask what I want, I have the right to answer what I want.”

Pellegrini’s mood was not helped by the injuries to Hart and Sterling. With Kompany already out for a month, he added: “Both of them have muscle injuries. Raheem his groin and Joe in his calf and I don’t think with a muscle injury you will be fit in one week. It is normally three or four weeks.”

Van Gaal insisted United now believe they can overhaul their neighbours. He said: “If we had not won this game it would have been very difficult to finish in the top four. Now it is in our hands. We have more home matches than away and we don’t often lose at Old Trafford. We are equal with West Ham, one point behind City so we have a big possibility to finish fourth. The players feel that.”
