Manchester United remain interested in Southampton star Sadio Mane and could tempt Saints into a deal by offering them Mephis Depay.
United tested the water over Mane by making tentative enquiries for the Senegal international in January, but they were put off by Saints’ asking price of in excess £15million for the 24-year-old.
However, reports say United are still keen and are pondering offering Depay as a bargaining tool as the Dutchman has failed to hit the heights expected of him following his move from PSV last summer.
Saints would still want a considerable fee for Mane, who they signed for nearly £12million in 2014, as he remains under contract until 2018.
Mane is thought to be interested in a switch to Old Trafford but knows Saints do not want to sell and could quite easily dig their heels in if the Red Devils come calling.
Depay’s involvement in a potential deal could alter the club’s stance, though, as boss Ronald Koeman may well be interested in the forward but the transfer seems to be a long-shot at this stage.
