Manchester United are edging closer to completing a deal with Benfica for highly-rated midfielder Renato Sanches.
The 18-year-old has enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season in the Primeira Liga and made his debut for Portugal in last month’s friendly against Bulgaria.
According to A Bola, United have agreed to pay £40m for the teenager and a deal is expected to be confirmed before the end of the season, with Sanches set to join up with his new Old Trafford team-mates after Euro 2016.
United have already decided their midfield needs reinforcements next season no matter who their manager will be, with Michael Carrick out of contract in the summer and Bastian Schweinsteiger struggling with injuries.
Jose Mourinho is the hot favourite to succeed Louis van Gaal in the summer and the Portguese is understood to be a big admirer of Sanches.
