A late surge of goals including a brace from debutant Marcus Rashford put United into the last 16 of the Europa League at Old Trafford.

The odds were not looking in the hosts favour when Anthony Martial was injured during the warm up and was replaced in the starting line up by 18 year old debutant Marcus Rashford however the youngster by the end of the night soon showed he was going to be one to look out for in the future.

Midtylland took the lead on 27 minutes when Pione Sisto skipped past Daley Blind and Michael Carrick to then fire home to shock the home crowd.

However United leveled five minutes later when Nikolay Bodurov put the ball into his own net converting Memphis Depay’s cross in.

The hosts missed an opportunity to take the lead just before the break when Juan Mata saw his penalty saved by Mikkel Andersen.

Debutant Marcus Rashford then scored his first of the night on 63 minutes when Juan Mata cut the ball back to the penalty spot where Rashford fired home to begin what would be an unforgettable night for the forward.

Rashford then grabbed his second on 75 minutes where once more the forward drilled the ball home from close range after good work from Guillermo Varela saw him work the ball into the six yard box, Rashford’s run was not tracked and he took full advantage as United leveled the aggregate score.

The hosts then took the aggregate lead when Ander Herrera slammed home from the penalty spot after Kian Hansen was penalised for handball.

Midtylland then went down to ten men after Andre Romer saw his second yellow card of the evening and marched down the tunnel just before the 90th minute.

The hosts then finished off proceedings when Memphis capped off a good evening’s display when he drilled home a low effort at the near post to seal off an anxious night for Manchester United but confirmed their route into the last 16.
