Manchester City edging closer to agreeing deal for John Stones with Everton

Stones has told Everton boss Ronaldo Koeman he wants to join City but the clubs were well apart on valuation and negotiations hit the buffers.

Everton want £50m-plus for Stones but City were only prepared to pay nearer the £40m price tag the Merseyside side quoted Chelsea for the player last summer.

But because Stones has put his neck on the line by asking to go, City feel obliged to increase their offer, especially as Pep Guardiola is keen to have the player available for the start of the Premier League season in three weeks time.
