The Red Devils are refusing to distance themselves from reports they are ready to stump up the £60m asking price for the Italy international, who bagged an incredible 31 goals from 42 appearances last term for the Turin club.
United insiders, however, have indicated a path towards any potential deal is being complicated by the fact Belotti’s agents are demanding comparable terms to what was previously on offer to Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, who last week indicated he would be remaining in the Spanish capital.
The France international was demanding to be made the highest-paid player at Old Trafford and United were ready to stump up – which was not lost on the Belotti camp.
Another issue is that the former Palermo man does not yet possess the star commercial power of Griezmann which United were ready to exploit to the maximum to justify all the figures involved.
United boss Jose Mourinho is believed to have a summer transfer kitty of around £200m to spend but 23-year-old Belotti and Torino will have to become “more realistic” when it comes to their expectations.
