Mourinho is coming under increasing pressure to drop Rooney following his poor start to the season.
The United boss refuses to blame Rooney for his side’s woeful form ahead of today’s visit of champions Leicester.
But he has warned his skipper he no longer has the special privileges he enjoyed under previous boss Louis van Gaal.
Mourinho said: “In football everyone is the same, and if he has to go on the bench, he goes on the bench.
“If he has to stay at home, he stays at home, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t trust him or you have a problem.
“We have no problems. He is our captain, but of course, no privilege, he is like anyone else.
