Newcastle are reported to have entered the race to sign Chelsea defender Nathan Ake, who is impressing while on loan with Watford.
Ake joined the Hornets on a season-long loan deal from the Blues in August after signing a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge, and he has shown his undoubted potential during that time.
Watford are keen to sign him on a permanent basis and are ready to offer £3million in the hope that will be enough to persuade Chelsea to cash in on the youngster.
However, Newcastle have now emerged as an interested party as Magpies boss Rafael Benitez knows all about the Dutchman from his time in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Benitez clearly rates him highly after handing the 21-year-old his first start in Chelsea colours, and reports claim he will make a move if the Magpies stay in the Premier League.
Ake still sees his future at Chelsea but will be open to offers should the Blues decide to cash in.
“Of course, I would like to return to Chelsea,” he revealed. “But it is important for a player of my age to get regular playing time. Things have been going pretty well this season. I am getting plenty of game time and I really feel like I am improving as a player.
“Let’s see how the season ends with Watford and then we can start thinking about the future.”
