Former Everton manager Roberto Martinez won his first game as Belgium coach thanks to a brace from Romelu Lukaku on Tuesday night.

The Belgium striker, who was brought to Goodison Park by Martinez for a club record £28m, netted a brace to help Belgium open their World Cup campaign with a 3-0 win over Cyprus.

It was welcome relief for Martinez who endured a baptism of fire against his native Spain last Thursday when he was booed by some sections of his own team’s supporters in Brussels following a 2-0 defeat in a friendly.

Everton fans will be hoping the brace sees Lukaku go on a scoring run as he has not netted for the Toffees since his double against Chelsea in the FA Cup back in March.
