Romelu Lukaku has suggested he has nothing to prove to Jose Mourinho amid reports of a potential reunion at Manchester United.
The Everton striker has been linked with a summer switch to Old Trafford – where he could be managed by the man who described him as “not elite” when he agreed to sell him from chelsea in 2014.
The Belgian has gone on to prove value for money for the £28million Everton shelled out – with 28 goals in 65 appearances since his transfer.
The 22 year-old has now addressed the concerns that some have about whether he would be the Portuguese tactician’s first-choice for the Old Trafford frontline.
“Some may say I need to convince him [Mourinho], but it is not a question of that,” he told La Derniere Heure.
“That was three years ago and I was not ready to be effective in a top team.
“Several good seasons, including the current one, have changed the situation.
“I will be 23 years old [in May] and I could leave this summer.”
Lukaku’s father last week said that his son should join Manchester United or Bayern Munich when he leaves Everton.
