Ronald Koeman has stated that Romelu Lukaku has told him he’s happy to stay at Everton this season, ending speculation over his future.
There has been mounting talk that the Belgian international would leave Goodison this summer, especially after he was absent for the opening game of the season against Tottenham last weekend.
But Lukaku, who has been linked with a return to Chelsea, came on a substitute in the Toffees’ 2-1 win over West Brom on Saturday and made a big impact.
Koeman revealed after the game that the 23-year-old came to see him on Friday to tell him he plans to stay with the Blues for at least one more season.
The Dutchman said: “It is true. He spoke to me yesterday morning (to say) that he made the decision by himself to stay at least one more season at Everton and that is great news for everybody.”
When asked if Lukaku might sign a new contract at Goodison Park, Koeman added: “Yes, that is possible.”
