Louis van Gaal insists Wayne Rooney must focus on getting fit for Man United

“No, he won’t be ready for England next month”

Louis van Gaal

Rooney suffered the injury in United’s defeat at Sunderland two weeks ago.

Van Gaal added: “He has a brace now and he has to wear it for two-and-a-half weeks and then we have to look again. So I cannot say anything about that now. For now, he is resting because of the brace.”

Rooney, 30, has had the brace fitted to stabilise the knee injury while he works with United’s physios.

But an operation would become a possibility if the problem does not settle down – and that would leave Rooney in a race against time to be fit for the Euros.
