Louis van Gaal insists Dimitri Payet dived against Manchester United and should have seen red

Louis van Gaal believes Manchester United have been on the wrong end of a lot of poor refereeing decisions this season.

The Dutchman made the remark after Dimitri Payet was not given a second yellow card for an apparent dive before scoring a stunning free kick only moments later.

Anthony Martial scored late on to rescue the Red Devils but Van Gaal bemoaned the decision not to send Payet off and also criticised the goals conceded against Liverpool in the Europa League on Thursday night.

“I am sitting on the bench and it looks like he dives,” said Van Gaal after the 1-1 draw.

“I have seen the video now and I can see yes there was a little contact but he dives. You can fall down in another way.

“You can always discuss the decisions of the referee because also the game against Liverpool – is it a penalty or not? And is the second goal not offside? I have to say that we are very unlucky with the decisions of the referees this season.”
