Loud, daunting but joyous: West Ham’s legendary Upton Park bash an instant classic

West Ham have never been a club to scrimp on the excess so why would their Upton Park send off be any different.

Paolo Di Canio, Julian Dicks, Martin ‘Mad Dog’ Allen – not names associated with staying low key or under the radar – legends of a club laden with jubilation and altercation in equal amounts over its 112-year Boleyn residency.

And so the Hammers went out with a huge bang.

On the electric streets before kickoff, for the 94 minutes of intense and thrilling action and the elongated celebrations at full time – it was fantastic.

From Winston Reid’s 80th minute winner to Mark Noble being crowned Man of the Match, it was an atmosphere unlike anything I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

Loud, daunting but joyous.
