Luke Garbutt has indicated he is hoping for a recall from Everton in January having been sent on loan to Wigan in the summer.

The 23-year-old was loaned out to Latics in the hope of getting some game time under his belt and impressing Blues boss Ronald Koeman in the process.

However, the defender has made just three appearances for the Championship side, spending more time on the bench than on the field.

The Everton youngster, who spent last season on loan at Fulham, has suggested he is ready to move on come January when his loan expires and would like to be back at Goodison Park if that option is open to him.

Should Koeman decide he still does not feature in his immediate plans then Garbutt says he would also be open to another loan move, admitting he needs to be playing regularly.

“This (loan) is only until January with a view to me playing more. If I’m not playing than obviously I’d love to move on in January,” said Garbutt.

“In that respect I’ve got a long term contract at Everton so I can try and play regularly at my loan club and hopefully go to Everton and play in their team.

“But if that doesn’t work out and I’ve played well at my loan team then I can get a transfer somewhere else. You’re always thinking to yourself ‘I need to play football and I’ll go anywhere to play’.

“Could I come back? That could be an option.”
