Liverpool have been linked with Sassuolo striker Gergoire Defrel after a club scout saw him score in a 2-0 win over Genoa on Sunday.
Reports in Italy claim Liverpool sent a representative to the Stadio Citta del Tricolore for the Serie A clash between the two mid-table sides with in-form Defrel the likely target.
The Frenchman scored with a diving header in the 66th minute – his fifth goal in his last six league and Europa League matches.
Defrel, 25, is under contract with Sassuolo until 2020 and is rated in the £12m bracket with Crystal Palace having reportedly made an £11m offer for him during the recent transfer window.
Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin, who was also on show, was linked to Liverpool towards the end of last season but Jurgen Klopp signed Loris Karius in the summer.
