Christian Benteke has been ruled out of Liverpool’s clash with title-chasing Tottenham on Saturday after sustaining an injury on international duty.
The Belgium striker returned to Merseyside early after picking up a knee problem and is undergoing further assessments by the club’s medical staff.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp may be short on attacking options for the visit of Maurucio Pochettino’s side, with the German also revealing that Roberto Firmino will face a late fitness test.
“Roberto Firmino will be close,” said Klopp.
“We have to make a decision, maybe tomorrow – we will see. It’s another 24 hours but we cannot bring pressure in this situation and we have to wait to see how he feels and other things.
“It’s completely different with Christian Benteke. In this moment he is not available and we have to wait for further assessments to know exactly how long it will be. But for this game for sure, he has no chance.
“Most of the players came back [from internationals] healthy, that’s cool.”
