The England international only signed a new three-year deal at Anfield in March and he made five league appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side towards the end of the campaign, after recovering from a serious knee injury that kept him on the side-lines for 18 months.

The 23-year-old had been linked with a move to join former manager Brendan Rodgers at Celtic on loan, but the Liverpool Echo are now reporting that the full-back is set to remain on Merseyside, as he features in Klopp’s plans for the new season.

The youngster, who has also been linked with a move to Premier League new boys Burnley, has appeared in all three of Liverpool’s pre-season matches to date this summer, and he will be hoping to be included in the starting line-up for the Reds opening league match of the campaign against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on August 14.
