Liverpool penalty at Crystal Palace: Klopp says it was clear but fortunate because the referee didn’t want to give it
Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool’s late penalty at Crystal Palace was ‘clear’.
Asked by talkSPORT if he believed the decision to penalise Palace’s Damien Delaney for a challenge in the box on Christian Benteke was fortunate for the Reds, Klopp was unequivocal.
“No, do you think [it was]?” the German responded.
“It was fortunate because the ref didn’t want to give it, but the assistant was sure.
“I saw on television, it was clear. It was unlucky for the Crystal Palace player, but he touched [Benteke] with the knee.”
Klopp also explained that he thought Delaney invited trouble by going to ground with his challenge.
“That’s how it is in the box; you’re not allowed to go down early, because then everything can happen.”
