Liverpool are close to completing a deal for Augsburg defender Ragnar Klavan.
The 30-year-old Estonia captain is expected to join the Reds at the start of this week for a fee of £4.2m.
Jurgen Klopp moved for Klavan after Joe Gomez and Mamadou Sakho suffered injuries which are likely to rule them both out of the start of the season.
Klopp only has two fit senior central defenders, Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip, having allowed Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure to leave this summer.
The German knows Kavan – a one-time target for Everton – from his time managing Borussia Dortmund.
The Estonian, who has won 103 caps for his country, has made 125 appearances in the Bundesliga for Augsburg since joining them in 2012.
He previously spent seven years in Holland with Heracles and AZ Alkmaar.
