It was a glamour friendly and Liverpool definitely dazzled against one of football’s best sides.
Goals from Sadio Mane, Divock Origi, Marko Grujic and a Javier Mascherano own goal put Barcelona to the sword in an entertaining 4-0 win.
It may only have been a friendly, but 89,845 fans packed into the national stadium and those who made the trip will not have been disappointed.
The Reds were excellent value as they continued to rob Barcelona and were dangerous in attack and solid in defence.
There were only 15 minutes on the clock when Mane slammed the ball past Marc-Andre ter Stegen after great play from Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino.
Meanwhile, Philippe Coutinho looked impressive as he outmuscled Aleix Vidal to leave the Barca defender in a heap only to curl his shot over the bar.
However, there was cause for concern over James Milner – beginning at left back ahead of Alberto Moreno – when he hobbled off just before half-time, where manager Jurgen Klopp decided to make changes elsewhere.
Off came Coutinho, Lallana and Emre Can who were replaced by Origi, Jordan Henderson and Kevin Stewart – and these changes didn’t stop the Reds come charging out the blocks.
They scored twice in a matter of minutes when pressure from Henderson saw Mascherano bundle the ball past Claudio Bravo and a minute later Liverpool stole the ball in the final third leading to Origi’s goal.
They left it late for the fourth, but it was worth the wait as Grujic expertly guided his header past Bravo from an excellent Lazar Markovic cross.
