LISTEN: Mauricio Pochettino left ‘disappointed’ after Tottenham miss chance to go top of the table with draw at West Brom
Spurs looked like they were heading for their first Premier League defeat of the season when Nacer Chadli put the Baggies ahead with eight minutes left to play.
But the visitors rescued a point through Dele Alli in the dying minutes of the game to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
With Manchester City drawing at home to Everton, Pochettino’s side missed their opportunity to go top of the table. And Pochettino admitted he was disappointed with the result against Tony Pulis’ men.
“Well, [I’m] disappointed not frustrated – it’s a different feeling – with the result because I think we played much, much better than West Brom, we deserved more,” Pochettino told talkSPORT.
Tottenham dominated their opponents for large periods of the game, with goalkeeper Ben Foster making a number of outstanding saves. Christian Eriksen and Alli were both denied by Foster and Pochettino made no excuses for his players.
“In football, if you don’t score when you create a lot of chances like we did in the first half – always – you let open the result and the score.
“But it’s true, in the second half when we conceded the goal, the team showed a lot of character and belief. I am happy with our performance.
“[It was a] big effort from all our players and now we must keep going.”
Tottenham drop to third place in the table following the result as north London rivals Arsenal beat Swansea City 3-2 at the Emirates.
