Antonio Conte will transform Chelsea back into title contenders, according to Frank Lampard.
A nightmare 2015/16 campaign saw Jose Mourinho sacked mid-season and the Blues slump to a tenth-place finish – the worst title defence in Premier League history.
But Lampard is convinced his old club will be challenging at the top again this term under Conte, who was brought in as Mourinho’s permanent replacement earlier this summer.
After watching the passionate Italian begin his Stamford Bridge reign with a win over West Ham, Chelsea’s all-time record goalscorer told talkSPORT: “He is the perfect fit for Chelsea from what I have seen and what I have heard about how he has worked them pre-season.
“The style they played with against West Ham the other night was quicker, more pressure on the ball, moving the ball quicker through midfield, energy in the team, and the personality of Conte on the line jumping up and down wasn’t fake, it was real, and that transmitted through to the players.
“And with the quality they have got there, which won the league quite comfortably the season before last, I think they are going to be challenging again.”
