Antonio Conte dedicated Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Leicester to the absent Willian.
The Brazilian missed Saturday’s Premier League meeting after being granted compassionate leave following the death of his mother.
Diego Costa marked the opening goal by making a ‘W’ sign in tribute to his teammate, while Eden Hazard held up his fingers to show 22, Willian’s squad number for Chelsea.
Conte was pleased to see his his players rally around the 28-year-old, and offered his condolences to the player after the match.
“We showed that we are a family,” he said.
“Willian is a fantastic guy and at this moment he is very sad. But he knows we are sad together and for this season I want to dedicate our win, our performance, to Willian and his family.”
Chelsea fielded a 3-4-3 formation against Leicester and were the superior side throughout.
They have now claimed back-to-back wins in the Premier League and Conte was beaming at the manner of their display.
“I am pleased,” he said.” It was important to win and to take the three points but it is important the way that you win and today we showed this team play a good game.
“We played good football. The players enjoy this type of football, as do the fans, and we must continue in this aspect.
“I am very happy for the players, because I see the commitment and workrate every week.”
