Louis van Gaal is proving to be an inspiration to Manchester United’s younger players, according to winger Jesse Lingard.
The 23-year-old is expected to be involved on Wednesday when the Red Devils host Crystal Palace, with United hoping to maintain their chances of finishing in the top four.
Lingard, who had previous loan spells at Birmingham, Brighton and Derby, believes manager Van Gaal has provided the perfect example by bringing through the likes of himself, Marcus Rashford and Timothy Fosu-Mensah this season.
Lingard told the Manchester Evening News: “There are a lot of different routes to get to the first team and luck plays a part.
“But when you are in the youth system it is good to see other young players getting opportunities.
“That’s why it is good that the manager is playing young players this season. He likes young players and he can trust us.
“It all helps other young players in the academy knowing there are examples of lads like themselves getting opportunities. It lifts you.”
