FA Cup-winning hero Jesse Lingard has returned to training two weeks early in a bid to hold down a place at Manchester United.
The 23-year-old made 40 appearances for the Red Devils during the last campaign, the highlight being his winning goal in last month’s victory over Crystal Palace at Wembley.
United’s players aren’t due to start physical work until July 7, although a few squad members will start filing in to Carrington over the next couple of days for preliminary testing.
It’s understood Lingard returned to United’s training HQ at the beginning of the week and has been working alongside a conditioning coach to ensure he is fully ready to impress Jose Mourinho.
The new Old Trafford boss is yet to inform the younger players in his squad what plans he has in store for them, although Lingard, who scored six goals last term, is sure to catch the eye of his manager with his early commitment and application.
