Callum McManaman’s future at West Brom looks bleak after Tony Pulis admitted youngster Jonathan Leko is a better option at the moment.

McManaman has not been named in any of the Baggies’ first-team squads in the Premier League so far this season and is facing a real fight to force his way back into Pulis’ plans.

The 25-year-old was offered to Newcastle in the summer but a deal failed to materialise and he’s been forced to play for the Under-23s while youngster Leko has moved ahead of him in the pecking order.

Albion head coach Pulis was asked why he hasn’t been in any of his squads recently and responded: “Jon Leko. I’ve really been impressed with Jon.

“I’ve had a good chat with Callum, he’s good as gold. I haven’t got a problem with Callum. Someone said the other day he’s had a bad time here.

“Some players come into football clubs, they don’t settle for whatever reason, it doesn’t make him a bad person or a bad player, it’s just the way we’ve gone.

“He’s a good lad Callum, worked hard, trained well, but he’s not been in the team. As a manager you pick the players that suit the system that the rest of the players need to get you results.”
