Southampton look set to miss out on Tonny Vilhena after Leicester jumped to the front of the queue for the Feyernoord midfielder.
The 21-year-old is set to become a free agent come the end of the season having turned down a new contract at De Kuip, and a large number of clubs have already expressed an interest in snapping him up.
Southampton were thought to be the favourites for the Netherlands Under-21’s signature having pursued Vilhena for the best part of a year, with Saints boss Ronald Koeman trying to land him last summer and during the January transfer window.
However, Leicester have reportedly jumped to the head of the queue as Vilhena would like to join a Champions League club.
The league-leading Foxes have sent scouts to watch the attacking midfielder in the second half of the season and the Daily Express says they are confident of beating the likes of Southampton to the punch once Vilhena hits the market in the summer.
