West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini is a doubt for the start of the new Premier League season after picking up an unspecified injury.
Lanzini picked up the problem during Argentina’s 2016 Olympics warm-up game against Colombia and is set to arrive back in the UK to be assessed by club doctors.
It is unclear what the 23-year-old’s issue is but the Hammers were recently told the attacking midfielder was ‘up in the air’ and heading back to get checked up.
Stijn Vandenbroucke, the head of medical and sports science for the English outfit, says he is waiting for Lanzini to arrive so they can get him assessed quickly.
“We understand he is in the air and on his way back. We want Manu here as quickly as possible,” he said.
“We want to get this dealt with as soon as possible and we are glad the procedures to release him were completed quickly.”
The Argentine’s setback is the second blow in quick succession for West Ham, following the injury to Aaron Cresswell in the 3-0 friendly win over Karlsruher SC on Saturday.
