Lamine Kone offered new Sunderland contract as David Moyes fights to keep Everton target

Sunderland are ready to make Lamine Kone their highest-paid player to ward off interest from Everton.

The Toffees are hot on the heels of the centre-back and they have made an offer of £18m to try and secure his services.

Sunderland, though, are desperate to keep hold of the Ivory Coast international with just under two weeks remaining in the transfer window.

And, according to reports, the Black Cats are ready to make Kone the club’s biggest earner to persuade him to stay.

The 27-year-old only joined Sunderland in January but the club are now willing to double his pay to around £70,000-a-week and hand him a new four-year deal.
