Labour whips resign following Jeremy Corbyn’s cabinet reshuffle

Labour veteran Hilary Benn was sacked by the Labour frontman, which prompted a staggering 64 MPs to quit the frontbencher.

Six returned, but the latest shuffle could ignite deep divisions within the party.

Widely seen as Mr Corbyn’s right-hand woman, loyal Diane Abbott got promoted to Shadow Home Secretary in the latest reshuffle, with allies John McDonnell, Emily Thornberry, Richard Burgon, Angela Rayner and Cat Smith all retaining their posts.
