Southampton must tie boss Ronald Koeman down to a new deal, according to club legend Matt Le Tissier.
Koeman will enter the final year of his current deal at the end of the season and Le Tissier believes keeping the Dutchman at St Mary’s is vital.
The 52-year-old guided Saints to a seventh-placed finish last term and they are on course to achieve a similar result this season.
Le Tissier feels keeping hold of star players is also important, but he says extending Koeman’s deal should be the club’s first priority.
He told The Mirror: “To get our manager secured to a new contract would be a massive boost for the club.
“If we could get Ronald on another two or three-year contract that would be a really good starting point to kick us forward again because he is an outstanding manager.
“We also have to keep hold of our players. In the last couple of summers weÂ’ve lost good players. It’s always going to be tough to keep replacing them.
“[Keeping Koeman] is the most important thing. Hopefully we’ll get that sorted and something will be announced shortly.”
