Former Southampton striker Iain Dowie has praised the recruitment of Ronald Koeman during his time at St Mary’s.
Dowie made over 140 appearances for the Saints over a four-year spell in the early 90’s and he insists he is pleased to see the club performing so well.
Saints currently sit just a point adrift of fifth-placed Manchester United in the Premier League and haven’t conceded a goal in their last six outings.
The 51-year-old believes their league position is even more impressive due to the amount of top-quality players who have left over the past few seasons.
The former striker feels that Koeman’s recruitment is spot on and insists he deserves a lot of credit for rebuilding a competitive squad.
Dowie said: “For a number of years now, the youth development has been superb, but the acquisitions in more recent years have been even more impressive.
“Every season Southampton lose top players, but are able to replace them effectively by finding the right player for their style of play – who are not necessarily the most celebrated, or highly-touted, players.
“Having a manager like Ronald Koeman certainly helps. He is a top-level manager who can attract the right talent and get them playing his way.”
