Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says his side is in good shape for the Europa League final against Sevilla and preparations have gone well.
The Reds are in Basel in Switzerland for Wednesday’s final against Sevilla, where they will hope to win the club’s first European trophy since the famous 2005 Champions League triumph in Istanbul.
Klopp’s men have overcome Augsburg, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal in the knock-out rounds and confidence in the camp appears to be high ahead of the clash against the Spanish outfit, who are aiming to win the competition for the third year in a row.
Despite it being a showcase final, Klopp says he will approach the game as much as possible in a similar way to the previous rounds and he believes his players can handle the occasion.
He told reporters at a press conference on the eve of the final: “We had pressure against Villarreal, Dortmund, and these boys always did a perfect job, so why should I change. If I change, they think ‘maybe he thinks they are not ready’. I am sure they are ready.
“That’s the situation. We feel good. I am pleased that I can be part of this moment, with this team. When I came here there was doubt about these players, and I am happy that they could show how strong they are. Tomorrow is a big chance to take a big step.”
Club captain Jordan Henderson, meanwhile, says he expects to be on the bench against Sevilla after he made a return to action as a sub in Sunday’s final Premier League game of the season at West Brom after six weeks out with a knee injury.
Henderson said: “I don’t expect to start. I’ve been out a long time. I’ve only played 30 mins, and the team has done very well to reach the final.”
Liverpool are slight favourites to come out on top and win the Europa League on Wednesday and punters may want to use their free bet to back Klopp’s side to triumph.
