Liverpool are reportedly close to securing a deal for Augsburg’s Ragnar Klavan as they look to address their defensive crisis.
Reports claim that the Merseyside outfit have offered a fee in the region of £4.2million for the centre-back and the deal should be completed this week.
Jurgen Klopp has been left short of options defensively following the departures of Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel this summer.
The German did bring in Joel Matip on a free transfer from Schalke, although he suffered a knock in the friendly win over Wigan on Sunday.
France international Mamadou Sakho is set to miss the start of the campaign with an Achilles problem, while Joe Gomez has suffered a setback in his return from injury.
Klavan, who is the captain of Estonia, would bring a wealth of experience to Anfield, having played for AZ Alkmaar before spending four years in the Bundesliga with Augsburg.
The 30-year-old featured against Liverpool in the Europa League Round of 32 last season and helped the German club keep a clean sheet in the first leg before the Premier League side won the return at home 1-0.
