The Argentinian stopper still has two years remaining on a £50,000-a-week deal – with an option to extend it by a further year.

Romero is happy at Old Trafford and members of his circle have insisted he has been “fully-embraced” by United boss Jose Mourinho.

The 29-year-old, however, is aware of significant interest from over the summer from both Spain and South America.

It’s understood La Liga outfit Real Sociedad see him as a potential option if Man City decide to recall Geronimo Rulli next year.

Romero was signed by former United chief Louis van Gaal and has made just five appearances during his time in Manchester.

He has never been under any illusions about having to playing second fiddle to David de Gea, although the chance to be a number one, elsewhere, is now a genuine consideration for him at this stage in his career.
