Liverpool are understood to have agreed terms with Mainz for a deal to sign former Manchester City goalkeeper Loris Karius.
German magazine Kicker claim the deal has been set at £8million, the player’s release clause, and that Karius will provide competition to Anfield number one Simon Mignolet next season.
The Mainz star, 22, was understood to be Jurgen Klopp’s premier goalkeeper target this summer and the pulling power of the German is thought to have been a factor in getting the deal done so quickly.
Karius – a Germany Under-21 international – has already clocked up 90 Bundesliga appearances, keeping 27 clean sheets in the process.
Danny Ward, who was recalled from a loan spell at Aberdeen in January, is expected to spend 2016-17 on a temporary deal at Huddersfield Town.
