Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante is heading to Chelsea in a £29million deal, according to reports in France.
The French newspaper Le Parisien made the claim on Wednesday morning, but other sources have indicated that the report is not true and claim the Foxes have offered their Euro 2016 star a new four-year deal instead.
Kante is reported to have a £20million release clause in his contract but it has been suggested that only Champions League-qualified clubs could get him for that amount, forcing Chelsea to pay his true worth.
Leicester signed the 25-year-old midfielder for just £5.6m from Caen last summer and his subsequent performances for club and country have put him in the frame for a pay rise.
The Foxes are still trying to tie Kante down to a new massively improved deal at the King Power Stadium and the player’s reaction to the offer could well determine what happens next.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has turned to the Foxes star as his attempts to land Radja Nainggolan from AS Roma looked doomed, but trying to land Kante is proving to be equally as difficult.
