The agent of Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro has confirmed Southampton were one of the clubs interested in signing him this summer.
The 23-year-old Italy international star featured in half of Juve’s fixtures last season and has now become a key member of Massimiliano Allegri’s squad.
Sturaro also impressed then Italy coach Antoino Conte, who handed him three appearances at Euro 2016 in France earlier in the summer.
There were unsubstantiated reports claiming the Saints tried and failed to sign him with a 15million euros offer during the transfer window, while Lazio and Sunderland were also thought to be in the running.
However, Sturaro’s agent has now confirmed that there was interest from Claude Puel’s side and David Moyes at Sunderland.
When asked about interest from the Premier League, Carlo Volpi said: “Yes, Southampton and Sunderland were interested in Sturaro.”
