Juventus forward Simone Zaza has ended Southampton’s hopes of a possible deal by confirming he would like to stay in Italy.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to St Mary’s during this summer transfer window after Italian forward Graziano Pelle departed for Chinese outfit Shandong Luneng.
Zaza only joined Juve last summer from Sassuolo, but he struggled for regular first-team action in Turin and finished the club’s Serie A title-winning campaign with five goals in 19 appearances.
It was previously reported that the Italy international would be interested in moving on, but only to a club that has European football on offer.
The Saints would fit the bill after securing a Europa League place, but fresh reports from Zaza’s homeland are claiming he is keen to stay put either with Juve or another Serie A outfit.
