Jose Mourinho takes Manchester United training for the first time as Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly get to work

Jose Mourinho has already signed three players at Manchester United but has been forced to wait until today to get out on the training field at Carrington to coach his new players.

The Portuguese signed a three-year contract to replace his former Barcelona mentor Louis van Gaal in June and has acted quickly in his new post, securing deals for Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan before a ball has been kicked in pre-season.

United are preparing to face Wigan Athletic this Saturday. Mkhitaryan, a £26m capture from Borussia Dortmund, was photographed in action while Luke Shaw, injured in the Champions League last year, continues his recovery.

Mourinho welcomed long-term assistant manager Rui Faria to Carrington following the departure of Ryan Giggs with the Welshman hoping to embark on a career in management after leaving the club this summer.

Maroune Fellaini, Wayne Rooney, Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian Anthony Martial, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Marcus Rashford, David de Gea and Morgan Schneiderlin are among the players not seen today as they enjoy an extended rest after their efforts at the European Championship in France.

Mourinho will hope that Paul Pogba, the Juventus and France midfielder, will be the next to join them during training before leaving the country to participate in the International Champions Cup, where they will face rivals Manchester City and Dortmund in Asia.
